What is a Project?

A Project is a Temporary endeavor which is taken to create a unique product or service. It is non-repetitive work which is carried out to create a service.
We can take a example as
Construction of mall- It is a Project
Maintaining the work of mall - It is an operation

So in the above scenario, when we take consideration on construction of a mall it will lead to a project since we are going to construct it and once it is completed the project will be over . So a project is a temporary or a time framed oriented work which could take certain months to certain years.

Similarly once the construction is complete, the maintenance work been carried out will be considered as operation.

The project cycles works as


The Project cycle works as firstly we need to analyse the project about what will be required to complete it. The analyzing process works with many aspects Financially, Procurement from different places, man force etc.
Then the work is planned and distributed to the departments where the drawings ,designs, materials to be finalized. After that the execution of work is carried out and the project is commissioned.
After the completion of the project it is reviewed, the mistakes been done is rectified for future projects.

Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)

Work breakdown structure (WBS) can also be said as a hierarchical tree structure.
It outlines the project and breaks it down into smaller and more manageable portions.It is a key project need which organizes the team's work into manageable sections.
It is Detailing or arranging by providing a systematic division to a project 

Steps in which WBS is carried out.
  • Project deliverable                     
            Sub-deliverable
  • Work packages
             Sub work packages & 
  • Activities 

Project:
 Overall scope of the project :- The scope of the project which we are going to perform.
Deliverable 
 Major physical components :- The resources and the machinery required for the project
Work packages:
 Sub-division of deliverable into work groups :-The work to be provided to the divisions/ teams
Activities:
 Discrete work steps :- The activities which are to be done.
